Frequently asked questions

GVÖ Gebinde: Awesome! We'll all meet again!
  1. Who is the GVÖ?

GVÖ is a community of 38 shareholders and more than 250 licence partners. As a recycling organisation for sales packaging in the mineral oil industry, we organise the nationwide collection and recycling of used, fully emptied cans, canisters and drums through the GVÖ take back system.

  2. How do I get rid of my oil cans?

The following applies to collection points:

According to the German Packaging Act (VerpackG), packaging, e.g. oil cans, are subject to strict conditions and regulations regarding the take-back obligation. The GVÖ is the recovery company for packaging of the mineral oil industry, which relieves you of your take-back and recovery obligation as well as the obligation to produce supporting documents. The GVÖ take-back system is financed by the licence partners. For you as a collection point, the service is free of charge. Simply register online - and you will already benefit from the perfect take-back service of the GVÖ.

    The following applies to consumers:

Return the empty containers undamaged and sealed to the place where you purchased them.
Do not dispose of oil containers in the yellow recycling bag, the yellow recycling bin or household waste after use. Residual oil can contaminate soil and water if disposed of improperly.
Retail outlets selling products from GVÖ licence partners take back the empty containers free of charge and pass them on to GVÖ. GVÖ then organises recycling at certified specialist facilities.
The materials from the containers are processed and used as raw materials for new products.
